Mao like Stalin came up to a high postion of power in the military. When the rebellions came around the offered their military experties to the rebellious people. Eventually leading the whole armies and gaining the trust and loyalties of their men. After this happened their men would follow them off a bridge, so they used these men to silence anyone who tried to stop them from taking power. That is how both men came to power.
Unlike Mao, Hitler came up in politics, but these two men did have similarities. For example, they both were incredible public speakers which made people want to follow them. They are also both soldiers, but Hitler did not become a leader of a rebellion. In both comings to power poltical enemies just kind of disappeared. Hitler's and Mao's techniques were different but they are basically the same man.
There are typical signs to the fomation of a dictatorship. The first one is usually a rebellion but in some cases are a new political party with unkown agendas. Number two is a up and coming leader's enemies start to disappear without word from them. Finally, is full takeover of the army and not letting people have any freedom or even vote. That is how most dictatorships begin.
